The Georgia House of Representatives this week should consider a newly proposed bill that would provide the mayor of #VillaRicaGA the power to appoint and remove the city manager…

HB 1487 – sponsored by J. Collins, GA State House Representative District 71 , Rep. Lynn Smith, Rep. David Huddleston and Rep. Tyler Paul Smith reads: A BILL to be entitled an Act to amend an Act to provide a new charter for the City of Villa Rica, approved May 8, 2018 (Ga. L. 2018, p. 3869), so as to provide that the mayor shall appoint and remove the city manager; to provide for the city council to override such actions with a supermajority vote; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

“The decision of the mayor to appoint or remove the city manager may be overridden by the city council. For the city council to override a mayoral appointment or removal of the city manager, the city council shall adopt a resolution overriding such action with at least four councilmembers voting in favor of such resolution. “

The bill received its first reading in the House on Monday
