A 20-year old Carrolton man was killed Thursday evening after the vehicle he was traveling was struck by debris created by another crash.
According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash occurred about 7:30 p.m. on I-20 in Fulton County Thursday when an eastbound tractor-trailer driven by 53-year old Mario Vilan Polier of Hialeah, Florida overturned onto its passenger side. The truck crashed into a concrete barrier between the eastbound and westbound lanes, and hit a second tractor-trailer as well as two passenger vehicles in the eastbound lanes.
Debris from the concrete barrier went into the westbound lanes, striking two vehicles, the GSP said. One of the drivers died. He is identified as William Aaron Whitaker of Carrollton.
Three other people were injured in the crash.
Polier faces charges of improper lane change, following too closely and second-degree homicide by vehicle. His bond has been set ar $25,000.
