Carrollton To Revisit “Brown Bagging” Policy

Carrollton City Council, this month, could consider some changes and/or clarifications to the cityÂ’s alcohol ordinance.

In particular the “brown-bagging’” exceptions that in part allow for restaurant patrons to walk around Adamson Square with an open container. City officials and local police have expressed concerns regarding enforcement and concerns that there appears to be no curfew for the brown bagging exceptions.

“There is talk about stopping consumption of alcohol on the square after 2:00 AM. They can’t sell it after 2:00 but they can walk around with it and drink it. What we think is going on is that somebody will have a cup from the bar but they are filling it from their own bottle,” said City Manager Tim Grizzard. “People are out late and there really is no reason for them to be on the square that late. We really want to discuss that with the council.”

A resolution for the city’s alcohol ordinance approving “brown bagging” at the establishments that are licensed to sell alcohol for consumption on premises, was approved in December of 2016.
