Temple City Council Change Charter

The Temple City Charter was amended, on Monday night, to allow just one reading of city ordinances. According to original language new ordinances had to be read at two separate meetings before voting.

Now in order for ordinances to be put on the agenda for voting, they must be submitted to council members 72 hours before a vote and properly advertised to the public. The amendment was passed unanimously

The new amendment already affecting the council when it came to voting on new water and sewer rates.

“It did not get picked up by all of the elected officials until today,” said City Administrator Bill Osborne. “More than that is we did not post the draft ordinances for the public.”

Osborne recommended a postponement on voting for the cityÂ’s new water and sewer rates in a special called meeting on April 9th at 6:30.
