Social Media Threat Is Reportedly Behind Cancellation of Cross-County High School Basketball Matchup Saturday

#CarrollCountyGA and #CarrolltonGA Schools officials notified the Carrollton High and Villa Rica High School basketball teams that this afternoon’s scheduled game between the two schools has been postponed to a later date, due to a social media threat that is currently under investigation.

A Carrolton Police Department spokesperson on Saturday said the department is determining which office would investigate an alleged threat, based on the jurisdiction the threat was made.

However, a VRPD spokesperson told WLBB Radio, investigators believe the people allegedly involved in the concerning action, are “from Carrollton.”

“Early into the investigation, it seems that the threats were between two sets of people and not necessarily against the schools,” VRPD Captain Keith Shaddix said. “At this point, it appears there was teh suggestion that a beef between two parties would be handled at the game.”

Shaddix says the schools made the decision to postpone today’s game.

Villa Rica is currently 0-1 on the season. The Carrollton Trojans are 3-0.
