Second Detention Officer Charged During Investigation Into Alleged Criminal Activity At Jail

Haralson County deputies have arrested a second former detention officer following an investigation into allegations of criminal activity occurring within the Haralson County Jail.

That investigation has so far resulted in several inmates identified as being involved in a “conspiracy to bring drugs inside” of the jail. Charges have now been filed against numerous inmates as well as the two jailers.

Additional charges against at least one other individual are still possible, according to investigators.

Charges of violation of oath by a public officer and crossing county guard lines with suspected drugs and contraband had been filed against former detention officer Brandy “Joelle” Guthrie earlier this month.

Haralson County Sheriff Stacy Williams said deputies on Monday arrested former jailer Sonja Goodin for her alleged role in the alleged conspiracy. Goodin is so far charged with Violation Of Oath By A Public Officer and Obtain/Procure/Give/Inmate Prohibited Without Authorization. Both are felonies.

Bond has been set for Goodin at $20,000.

Goodin was reportedly located in Cobb County on Monday.

Authorities say she may be transferred to another holding facility as she waits to meet her bond.

Williams suggested that the investigation into the jail related allegations continues.
