Over The Road Trucker from Florida Arrested for Enticing a Minor and Soliciting Sex

(Carroll County, GA) On Sunday, April 4, 2021 while most are gathering to celebrate Easter, Investigators with the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Tallapoosa Police Department, along with members from the ACE (Aggressive Criminal Enforcement) and the US Marshals office were working to apprehend 39 year old Wigberto Berrios, an over the road trucker from Florida who had began sending inappropriate text messages and pictures to a minor from Carroll County over a week ago.

The mother of the minor was alerted to the inappropriate solicitation with her daughter and met with Carroll County Investigators and provided her daughters phone. The investigation revealed that Berrios also known as “Berto” was sending pictures of child molestation acts to the minor and begging her to meet with him as he traveled through the area to have sex using the Instagram app to communicate. Deputy Courtney Short took lead of the investigation under the direction of Sergeant Stephen Stollar and she began to communicate with Berrios who advised he would be traveling through the area on Easter Sunday and would like to meet the minor at a Dairy Queen in Tallapoosa and they could have sex, but he promised he would marry her and they would have kids one day, this would be just a way for them to get to know each other.

Berrios did arrive in Tallapoosa this morning just as he advised and once he was out of his truck and seeking the victim he was taken into custody without further incident. Berrios was interviewed and admitted to exchanging photos with the minor and soliciting sex from her. Investigators believe he is more than likely involved in other cases involving minors possibly throughout the Country and they have been in touch with Miramar Florida Police Department in reference to the arrest. BerriosÂ’ phone was placed into evidence and could yield more victims. If you or anyone you know has been contacted by Berrios and could be a victim, please contact Deputy Courtney Short at 770-830-5916 or by email at cshort@carrollsheriff.com.
