Marginal Risk For Severe Weather Tonight In West Georgia

The National Weather Service (NWS) held a Weather Briefing this afternoon in reference to the possibility for Severe Weather overnight tonight into Thursday.

A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for North Georgia and Northern Alabama to include counties as far south as Polk County in Georgia and including Cleburne and Randolph counties in Alabama.  The Flash Flood Watch is effective from 7:00 pm tonight through Thursday afternoon.

The main impacts of this system will be:

  • Damaging wind gusts
  • Brief tornadoes are possible
  • Periods of moderate to heavy rain with potential flooding

There is a Slight Risk (Level 2 out of 5) of severe weather for extreme Northwest Georgia and northern Alabama and a Marginal Risk (Level 1 out of 5) of severe weather for East Central Alabama and West Georgia.  The Marginal Risk carries over into Thursday morning for West Georgia and extreme eastern Alabama.

The timing of the possible severe weather will be between 11:00 pm and 7:00 am tonight and Thursday morning.
