Kierbow Enters Race for Carroll County District 5 Commission Seat

Political dominoes are falling in the southern portion of Carroll County where the upcoming election for a new county chairman seems to be having an effect on numerous other elected public service positions.

Residents in two county districtÂ’s are likely to have to elect new commissioners as those representing District Four and District Five have said they will resign in order to run for chairman.

On Thursday, a Carroll County Board of Education member told WLBB radio that if District 5 Commissioner Lee Powers does indeed resign, he will leave his seat in order to run for the vacated position.

Clayton Kierbow made that announcement on Thursday. Kierbow was elected to the Carroll County school board in April of 2017,  defeating Jessie Strickland by a single vote in a run-off.

Kierbow is currently employed with Mike Fitzpatrick Ford in Newnan. He has spent more than 2 decades as a fire fighter. If Kierbow does resign, no word yet on if replacing him would require a special election or if a replacement could be appointed by the remaining board members.
