GHSA Delays HS Football 2 Weeks for 2020 Season

The Georgia High School Association has unanimously voted to push back the football season 2 weeks, but keeping a full season while doing so.

In a scheduled meeting the GHSA met to talk about fall sports and whether or not they should push the seasons back. GHSA Executive Director Robin Hines was adamant to get the seasons in. He called for a vote to keep the calendar as scheduled and it was voted down 8-4. The next vote by the board was to keep the full season, but push it back two weeks (the season would start the Friday before Labor Day). The GHSA Executive Board unanimously voted for this option.

Football practices will begin as scheduled this coming week. Scrimmages, just like the season, have been pushed back two weeks and will begin the week of Aug 21.

The other fall sportsÂ’ (volleyball, softball, cross country, cheer and flag football) schedules remained unchanged and will begin on time.
