Fatal Crash on Ga. 166

Officials are investigating the possibility that medical issues played a role in the wrong-way crash that claimed two lives in Carroll County yesterday.

Investigators said a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 74-year old Linda Word of Bowdon, was heading east on the wrong side of Ga. 166 when it approached two vehicles heading west on the highway in the left lane.

Near Craven Road, WordÂ’s vehicle hit a 2018 Ford Escape head-on before striking a 2014 Nissan Altima in the back.

“We are being told that she did have some heart issues and she was actually on her way to a doctor’s appointment,” said Georgia State Patrolman, Chris Butler.

The driver of the escape was 69-year old Oddie Lewis of Carrollton and Word, died in the crash.

A 27-year old Carrollton man was also hurt in the crash, suffering non-life threatening injuries.
