Residents living in CarrolltonÂ’s ward-one should have their newly elected city councilperson sworn-in in time for the first regular scheduled council meeting in July. The ward-one chair has been empty since January with the retirement of long time councilman Gerald Byrd.
Ward-one voters on Tuesday picked Jaqueline Bridges as their next council voice, as she avoided a run-off election by collecting 52-percent of the votes in the three-person race. Bridges will complete ByrdÂ’s unexpired term which ends in December of 2021.
Also on Tuesday, Carroll County voters approved the continuation of the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax for Education.
The majority of Haralson county voters approved the continuation of the county governmentÂ’s SPLOST.
Haralson County Commission Chairman Ronnie Ridley will begin serving his first full term as chairman in 2021, defeating challenger Brian Prince by more than 800 votes.
Haralson County voters are back to the polls on August 11th where they will vote again for the next Haralson County Sheriff. The run-off election will feature 2 out of the initial 5 candidates. Brian Finley and Stacy Williams were the top two vote getters on Tuesday. Finley had 1723 votes. Williams 1604.
The Carroll County SchoolsÂ’ Board will have two new board members beginning in 2021. Four races were challenged this go around.
Former board of education member Bernice Brooks is back on the board, defeating incumbent Rob Cleveland 53 to 47 percent.
Kerry Miller defeats incumbent Bob Pinkney in district three.
Clayton Kierbow in district four and Bart Cater in district six hold on to their seats, defeating Jessie Strickland and David Smith. Both incumbent candidates collected at least 65-percent of the vote.
Ernest Reynolds will begin his first full 4-year term as Carroll CountyÂ’s District 5 Commissioner after defeating two challengers on Tuesday. Reynolds collecting 55- percent of the vote.
Haralson County District Three Commissioner Adam Budde was is defeated by challenger John Daniel.
The race for State Court Judge for Carroll County will reopen all polling places in Carroll County August 11th for a run-off election as none of the three candidates collected more than 50-percent of the vote, although one candidate was close.
Erica Tisinger and Met Lane will be the options on the run-off ballot in August. Tisinger on Tuesday collected 48.7 percent of the vote and Lane 35.5 percent.
In Haralson County, Brandon Heath will retain his seat as Chief Magistrate Judge after collecting 5179 votes to 1915 for challenger Roger Blue.

The District 18 State House race will bring a number of Carroll and Haralson county voters back to the polls in August to vote in a run-off election.
Candidate Cason Hightower received the majority of the vote in Carroll and Tyler Paul Smith received  the majority of votes in Haralson on Tuesday. Combine the numbers and neither candidate reached the 50-percent mark. Cason had a combined total of 47 percent of the vote; Smith with 35. Lane Daniel collected 18 percent.
The winner of this republican primary run-off will face democrat Pat Rhudy in the November general election.
District 16 House Rep. Trey Kelley defeated challenger Jennifer Hulsey in the Republican primary.
