Carroll & Haralson CountiesÂ’ Unemployment Rate Remained Unchanged in August

Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that the unemployment rate in Carroll and Haralson did not change from July to August and tied the all-time low set last month.

“Although we are seeing fewer unemployed individuals now than before the pandemic started, we are also still seeing a decreased total number of people in the workforce when compared to numbers recorded prior to the pandemic,” said Commissioner Mark Butler. “This will continue to cause a hiring crunch until we can attract more people back to the workforce to fill the record number of job openings.”

In Carroll County, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 2.9 percent in August. A year ago, the rate was 6.5 percent.

In Haralson County, the unemployment rate remained unchanged at 2.8 percent in August. A year ago, the rate was 5.9 percent.

Carroll CountyÂ’s labor force decreased in August by 234 to 55,688. That number is up 2,944 over-the-year.

Haralson CountyÂ’s labor force decreased in August by 47 to 12,594. That number is up 726 over-the-year.

Carroll County ended August with 54,051 employed residents.  The number decreased by 244 in August but was up 4,711 as compared to last year.

Haralson County ended August with 12,239 employed residents.  The number decreased by 53 in August but was up 1,067 as compared to last year.

In Carroll County, initial claims for unemployment decreased 28 percent in August. When compared to last August, claims were down about 82 percent.

Initial claims for unemployment decreased 27 percent in August for Haralson County. When compared to last August, claims were down about 84 percent.

Employ Georgia, the GDOLÂ’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed 694 active job postings in Carroll County and 108 Haralson County for August.
