Carroll County BOE to Lean on Fund Equity

The Carroll County SchoolsÂ’ Board of Education is leaning toward relying on fund equity to make up the estimated $1.18 million difference between projected expenditures and revenues in the 2018- 2019 school year budget. Although, board members did state the method to balance is not a strategy they feel comfortable implementing every school year. During initial talks, the majority of the board shot down the idea of increasing the millage rate as a means of fixing the gap.

Assistant Superintendent, Delene Strickland estimated Carroll County Schools will have approximately $19.5 million in fund balance by the end of the school year. However, much of that money is used to cover operations during the fall before taxes are collected.

The Carroll County SchoolÂ’s budget for fiscal year 2019 is estimated at $126.6 million. It could be approved by the BOE next month.
