Buchanan Police Charge Man After 5-Hour Standoff

On June 6, 2022 at approximately 9:15pm Buchanan Officers responded to 77 Weatherly St Apt A in reference to a domestic dispute. The male subject refused to speak with officers and barricaded himself in a bedroom.

Deputies with the Haralson County Sheriffs Office responded and assisted in setting up a perimeter around the residence.

After several failed attempts to establish communication with the barricaded subject, Georgia State Patrol SWAT was called in. GSP SWAT forced entry through the bedroom window using their BearCat vehicle and delivered chemical agent through the window. SWAT then made entry into the residence along with a Police K9 and was able to apprehended the male subject.

The male subject arrested was identified as Jessie Allen Hesler of Buchanan, Ga. Hesler was charged with Simple Assault FVA, Criminal Trespass, Obstruction, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Hesler was transported to the local hospital for treatment due to a dog bite. A rifle was recovered by Buchanan Police Dept inside the residence where Hesler was barricaded.

We would like to thank Haralson County Sheriffs Office, Georgia State Patrol SWAT, Haralson County Fire Dept, Haralson County 911, and AmbuCare for their assistance with this incident that could have turned out way worse, but with team work we we’re able to find a solution without anyone being seriously hurt.
