BOE EARNS TOP STATUS FOR FIFTH TIME

CARROLLTON, GA – The Carrollton Board of Education, for the fifth consecutive time, has been recognized by the Georgia School Boards Association as an Exemplary Board. The presentation was made at the GSBA/Georgia School Superintendents Association annual conference held virtually last week.

The board has been at the forefront of earning this prestigious designation since the GSBA began the process several years ago and was one of the first 36 school districts in the state to earn Exemplary status in 2015.

According to the GSBA, the recognition program is designed to showcase best practices in school governance and leadership. GSBA recognizes good school board governance to foster educational community cultures in order to advance student learning and achievement.

The board had previously earned Quality Board and Distinguished Board statuses in the inaugural years of each of those designations being available. In 2015, exemplary status became the culminating honor bestowed upon a school board that has reached the established pinnacle in the continuous improvement process. The honor is intended to be awarded annually but was suspended for one year in 2017. The Carrollton Board of Education has achieved it all years it has been available.

To qualify, each year a board must complete required governance standards to be considered for the Exemplary Board designation. One of these includes earning continuing education credits via classes and training. Carrollton BOE members have exceeded this training requirement while achieving high marks in the other areas.

“I commend the board on this consistent achievement,” said Dr. Mark Albertus, superintendent. “It takes a lot of dedication and effort to fulfill the stringent requirements. Our community should take pride in knowing a high-quality school board is leading public education in our city.”

Members of the Carrollton Board of Education, seated, are Mrs. Katie Williams, Dr. Jason Mount and Mrs. Melanie McLendon. Standing are Supt. Dr. Mark Albertus, Mr. Greg Schulenburg, Mr. David Godwin and Mr. Gil OÂ’Neal. The board earned its fifth designation as an Exemplary Board at last weekÂ’s Georgia School Boards Association conference.
