Ballots Set For May 24th Primary/ General Election

There are three county-level challenged races in Carroll and two county-level challenged races in Haralson for the May 24th primary general election, following the week-long qualifying period that ended on Friday.

Soon-to-be college graduate Will Godbee has challenged the Carroll County Board of Commissioners, District-4 incumbent Steve Fuller.

It will be a 4-candidate race to replace George Chambers as the district-six commissioner. Chambers is not seeking re-election in 2022. Instead, the next district-six commissioner will either be (territory sales manager) Danny Bailey, (retired) Kenneth Huddleston, (registered nurse) Vicki Anderson or (business owner) Debbie Neal.

There will be a new district-5 member on the Carroll County Board of Education, following long-time board member Donald Nixon’s decision not to qualify for re-election in 2022. Candidates include retired educator Bill Kesckes, retail district manager Tom Sizemore, and customer service specialist Curtis Stepps.

The Haralson County Board of Commissioners will see a new representative for district 2, After Jamie Brown opts not to qualify for re-election. Voters will choose either business owner Danny Elsbury or Skyler Williams of Bremen to start a new 4-year term in 2023.

The transportation manager for the Bremen City Schools District is challenging the district-5 incumbent for his seat on the Haralson County Board of Education. Bobby Wilson will challenge James Watson on the May ballot.

The only state-level race being challenged in May is in House district 70— where Angel Nunez of Newnan will challenge incumbent Lynn Smith.

And in the U-S Representative race for district-three-. There is only one challenger to republican incumbent Drew Ferguson this May; he is attorney Jared Craig of Newnan.
