Alcohol May Be Contributing Factor In Wednesday Evening Crash That Sends Victim To Hospital With Significant Injuries

Georgia State Patrol Public Information Officer Lt. Mark Riley said Thursday morning that one person has been charged with Driving Under The Influence and another has been flown to an Atlanta-area hospital with significant injuries following a two-vehicle crash in Haralson County late Wednesday.

 

Riley said the information below is the preliminary investigative findings, and this crash is still under investigation.

 

On September 29,2021, at 10:17 p.m., the Georgia State Patrol Post 29 Paulding was requested to investigate a two vehicle crash on GA 120 at GA 113 in Haralson County. 

 

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 2006 GMC Yukon was traveling north on GA 113 at the intersection of GA 120.  A 2003 Saturn Ion was traveling west on GA 120 at the intersection of GA 113.  The driver of the GMC Yukon failed to yield to the Saturn Ion while turning left onto GA 120 from GA 113.  The Saturn Ion struck the GMC Yukon on its right side with its front. 

 

After impact the Saturn Ion left the roadway onto the right shoulder, striking a fire hydrant, multiple street signs and a fence. 

 

The driver of the Saturn Ion was trapped and once extricated, flown to Kennestone Hospital with significant injuries. 

 

The driver of the GMC Yukon was suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and was charged with Driving Under the Influence, Failure to yield and other related charges.
