Carroll County Investigators say a man who had allegedly threatened to shoot a deputy, instead shot and killed himself.
At approximately 3:15 Tuesday morning, a Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for failure to maintain Lane on North Van Wert Road at Lake Paradise Road.
The Deputy made contact with the driver and occupants. During the course of the roadside investigation he asked the back passenger to exit the vehicle. At which time the occupant produced an AK 47 and shot himself in the head. The rifle is described as being a shorter gun with a grip but no stock.
The weapon had been concealed in the bag.
The Deputy then had all occupants exit the vehicle and deputies on scene attempted to render aid until Fire and EMS arrived.
The occupants of the vehicle were interviewed and advised the occupant, a white male, age 23 of Villa Rica had stated he was going to shoot the Deputy as the Deputy approached the vehicle. The witnesses claimed they “begged him not too.” He shot himself, instead.
The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.
The name of the victim is not being released due to ongoing investigation.
