Railroad And City To Meet About Road Blocks

news@newstalk1330.com
Villa Rica Ga -- Norfolk Southern Railroad officials are expected to meet with city officials from Temple and Villa Rica, as well as Carroll County Commission Chairman Marty Smith to discuss what can be done to prevent trains from halting in downtown for extended periods of time. Villa Rica residents were frustrated twice last month when trains blocked streets of Conners and Cleghorn for more than 24-hours at a time. Villa Rica Mayor, Jeff Reese, stated the road blocks are more than just an inconvenience to residents but can create safety issues. He pointed out that an emergency vehicle was delayed for 10 minutes because it had to find a different route to travel. A Norfolk Southern spokesperson said, "Due to reduced train operations over the holidays, we needed to hold trains at certain locations across our rail network. We ensured that two grade crossings were open for traffic. We apologize for the inconvenience to the community."

No officials word yet on when the meeting between the railroad and city will take place.
