Chief Assistant Serves As Acting DA

West Georgia Region -- The long time Chief Assistant District Attorney,  Monique Kirby, was sworn in as acting District Attorney of the Coweta Judicial Circuit on Thursday. Chief Judge John Simpson swore Kirby in to her new position at the Carroll County Courthouse.

Kirby will fill the role of her former boss, Pete Skandalakis, who resigned Wednesday to become the executive director of the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia. He served as the district attorney for 25 years and in the district attorney’s office for 33 years.

Kirby will act as the district attorney until either the scheduled election for the position in November or until Governor Deal appoints an interim district attorney.

Kirby said she will not seek the position full-time, which means she will not seek election in November.
