Rodriguez Suspect Sentenced for Burglary

Carrollton Ga -- The trials and punishments related to the 2014 shooting death of 13-year old Nizzear Rodriguez may have finally come to an end, although none of the suspects allegedly involved were found guilty of the murder, itself.

On Thursday, Malik Davis was sentenced to 20-years and to serve 14, for the crime of first degree burglary.

Investigators believed that Davis and co-defendant Kenneth Wheat entered Rodriguez's apartment intending to kill a rival gang member  they mistakenly believed lived there.

Wheat was sentenced in October to 40 years in prison, though that could be reduced to 20, subject to good behavior. Wheat had pleaded guilty during his trial in exchange for the state dropping the murder charge against him.

Davis is still permitted to appeal his sentence that was handed down on Thursday.
