Due to Hurricane Irma, Carrollton City Hall will close at 10:30 a.m., Monday, September 11, 2017. Conditions permitting, City Hall will re-open Tuesday, September 12th, at noon. The Mayor and Council Meeting, scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Monday, September 11th has been cancelled.
Emergency calls should be placed to 911. This is the proper contact for blocked roads, downed trees, medical emergency, or any other storm related situation. Power outages should be reported to the appropriate power company via the internet or mobile app. Phone numbers and internet links are provided at the end of this communication.
We have been advised to NOT work downed trees and utility outages during the actual storm. Past experience has shown that the danger to emergency personnel does not warrant such activity. Public Safety as well as Public Works personnel will be on the job throughout the event. However, they will likely wait until the worst of the winds subside to work all but the most essential outage conditions. If there is a medical emergency, crews will respond as dispatched by the 911 center.
The public should stay away from downed power lines. Please make no effort to cut trees that are entangled in any utility cables. Only Georgia Power or Carroll EMC personnel can address these issues.
Non-essential City departments will be closed all day Monday and Tuesday. These include the Recreation Department, the Cultural Arts Center, the Main Street Office, the Billing and Accounting Departments, the Building Department, the Senior Center and City Court.
Public Works will pick up garbage on Monday on the normal schedule. Trash pickup will not be performed on Tuesday due to the anticipated storm cleanup. We hope to pick up the normal Tuesday garbage route on Wednesday, if conditions permit.
