Councilman Skeptical of City Employee Pay Increase

Carrollton Ga -- Carrollton City Councilman Met Lane says he is unsure if raises for city workers are appropriate at this time.

Carrollton City's 2017-2018 budget proposal includes funding for a blended cost of living allowance and merit-based increase to average 3% for city workers.

Councilman Lane says: "I don't feel like we should increase the city employees by 3%. They have received a 3% for the last 3 years and they have basically received a 10% increase in the last 36 months. I feel like we need to figure out what other cities, similar in our size, are paying their city employees."

He says the cost of milk and gas has not increased in recent months; so why would this be called a cost of living adjustment?

The mayor and city council are expected to discuss and approve a budget for 201-2018 by July.
