Suspect Arrested In Connection To Possible “Grey Death” Possession

On 05/24/17 at 3:56 PM, Villa Rica Officers responded to the McDonald’s on Hwy 61 due to an accident. The driver was unconscious and had struck a parked vehicle. Officer Chris Rowen then noticed a plastic bag containing a grey powder on the driver’s floorboard. The material in the bag was consistent with how heroin is packaged and sold. Carroll Co Fire personnel were notified of the discovery and the driver was administered Narcan to counteract the drug and then transported to Tanner Emergency Room.
Officer Rowen continued his investigation and it is believed that the substance found is what has been called “Grey Death”. Grey Death is a mixture of Heroin and Fentanyl and has been responsible for deaths across the nation.
The driver was identified as Kenneth Patterson, 47 years old, from Katy, Texas. Patterson was charged with DUI and Possession of a Controlled Substance (Heroin & Fentanyl). Patterson was later released from the hospital and taken to the Carroll Co. Jail.
Captain Shaddix said “It is only due to Officer Rowen’s observation in locating the substance and the quick action of the Carroll Co Fire Department that another death was avoided due to this drug”.
