Emergency Crews Make Daring Rescue In Carroll County

On May 11, 2017 at 10:39 Carroll County Fire Rescue was dispatched to Oakwood Mobile Home Park in reference to a person pinned in a tree approximately 40 feet up. Carroll County Fire Rescue Engine 3 and Carrollton Fire Department Ladder 21 along with West Georgia Ambulance were dispatched to the scene. Deputies from Carroll County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene first and confirmed there was a person trapped in a tree. CCFR Engine 3 was the first arriving fire unit on-scene at 10:47. Due to the nature of the incident additional equipment and assistance was requested.  Bucket trucks were provided by Carroll County Public Works, Carroll County EMC, Metropolitan Communications, and Evergreen Tree Service.
CCFR Engine 3 personnel were able to climb the tree and make contact with the patient and start securing the patient with rescue equipment. It was identified that the patent a 45 year old male was attempting to trim the tree with a chain saw when the section of the tree above him fell wedging his arm into a fork in the tree.  Bucket trucks from Carroll EMC, and Evergreen Tree Service along with CFD Ladder 21 worked in conjunction above and below the large limb which had wedged the patient. Once the limb was removed the patient was successfully brought down from the tree.
The patient was removed from the tree at 11:50 and had suffered severe traumatic injuries. The patient was treated by West Georgia Ambulance and airlifted to Grady Trauma Center by Air Evac 112.
