Authorities Identify Carrollton Man Killed In Early Morning Fire

Carrollton Fire Chief Jimmy Bearden confirms that the body of an adult male was discovered in an apartment home early Monday morning after fire fighters extinguished a fire.
The fire was reported around 2:20 am at the Lakeview Apartments on 1210 Stewart St in Carrollton.

"We brought in three engines, a ladder truck, a Captain and myself," Bearden told WLBB Radio. "We found smoke showing outside from one apartment. We were able to extinguish the fire within five minutes of arrival. The fire was contained to the single unit."
After knocking out the obvious fire, emergency crews searched the rest of the home and found the body of 68-year old William Rooks.
"Our initial search is in the bedrooms and then the rest of the home," Bearden says. "We discovered Mr. Rooks in another room.
Carroll County Deputy Coroner Keith Hancock says the victim was the only person found in the home. Authorities do not know if any one else lived there, at this time.

Hancock suspects the death was caused by smoke inhalation. "We are waiting to hear back from the medical examiner," Hancock told WLBB Radio.
We will share more information as it becomes available.
