Witnesses Try To Stop Mother From 'Abusing' Infant; She Tries To Run Them Over

A Carrollton woman is behind bars after police say she assaulted her 2-year old child in public and attempted to run over with her car people who had come to the child’s rescue.
Just as shocking as the story is where the incident took place. It happened in the lobby and parking lot of the Carroll County Department Of Family And Children Services.
Carrollton Police Captain Shannon Cantrell says witnesses claim they saw the woman slap the child in the face several times and hit the child in the back of the head.  They also claim to have witnessed the mother knee the child in the face.
Police say the mother left the lobby and continued to strike the child while in their car. Several witnesses followed her outside and stood at her car while calling police and trying to keep her there.  The suspect then reportedly tried to run them over.
Police arrived and took the suspect into custody.
One of the witnesses described the event as “disgusting.”
The suspect, 22-year old Jasmine Patrice Simpson is charged with 2 counts of aggravated assault and cruelty to children in the 1st degree.
She remains in the Carroll County Jail without bond.
