Police Exploring "Gang-Angle" In Shooting Death Of UWG Student

Carrollton Police are now exploring the possibility that the shooting death of a University Of West Georgia student inside his apartment home Wednesday could be gang-related.
CPD Captain Shannon Cantrell says the shooting victim— 23-year old Tyler Ford, was known to have had gang-ties in his home town of Athens.
“Athens-Clarke County authorities contacted us yesterday suggesting we look into the possibility of it being gang-related because the victim was known to be a gang member in one of the biggest gangs in Clarke County,” Cantrell told WLBB Radio Friday. “They are very familiar with him. We now want to get this information out to the public so if someone has information they could bring it to us.”
Wednesday afternoon, Carrollton Police and UWG Police responded to a reported shooting at the River Pointe Apartment complex on Lovvorn Road. They found the victim lying on the floor near his doorway.
He was reportedly shot a single time after he answered a knock at the door. Three of Ford’s room-mates were also in the apartment at the time of the shooting, each in their own rooms. They report hearing a commotion at the door and then a gunshot.
Anyone with information relating to the shooting should call 911.
