Pair Arrested, Suspected In Multi-County String Of Burglaries

During the early morning hours of Thursday, July 28, 2016, Deputies responded to an alarm at Luv’s Country Corner in Tyus. Deputies from both Carroll and Heard Counties were in the area conducting concentrated patrol due to a rash of recent store burglaries.

When deputies arrived on the scene they were able to confirm that a burglary had occurred. The suspect(s) pried open the front door, and then entered the store where they ransacked and pried open an office door.

A review of the surveillance video depicted a white van pull up and black male exit the vehicle and pry the door open and then enter the store.

After a lookout had been placed a Franklin PD officer Glenn Towler spotted the vehicle at a convenience store in Franklin. After confirming the description of the vehicle and occupants, he followed the van into Coweta County until back up officers could arrive. Soon after crossing into Coweta County, officers from several agencies were able to take the occupants into custody without incident.

During the ongoing investigation, Inv. Greg Holcomb, (Carroll County) was working in conjunction with Heard County and Alabama authorities compiling photos and videos of the ongoing burglary ring taking place is several jurisdictions. In most all of these recent burglaries, the same white van would pull up; the passenger would then enter the store. The joint effort between agencies is what lead officers to develop suspect and vehicle descriptions, and had them in the area near the time of the burglary.

Arrested were Phylicia Chante Smalls (26) of Dallas GA and Andrea Trinton Wynn (49) of Atlanta GA. Both have been charged with Burglary 2nd Degree and remain in the Carroll County Jail pending additional charges locally and from surrounding agencies. Both also have Parole holds.

Thus far the suspects have been identified as committing (commercial) burglaries in the following jurisdictions.
· Carroll (3),
· Heard (2)
· Buchanan (1)
· Randolph (AL) (1)
· Opelika (AL) (1)
· Calhoun (AL) (2)
· Coweta

The officers from all agencies are to be commended for their efforts that lead up to the discovery of the suspects and their subsequent arrest.
