Hancock Wins Coroner Race

Keith Hancock will be the next coroner for Carroll County after collecting almost 700 more votes than Keith Jiles during a run-off election Tuesday.
Hancock collected 56-percent of the counted votes (3,324 to 2,632).
“First, I really have to give credit to my lord and savior Jesus Christ who was my strength throughout this,” Hancock told WLBB Radio. “Second, thank you to the citizens of Carroll County. I am most humbled by their support and confidence to serve them. I do so most humble.”
Hancock takes over for his friend and mentor, long-time Carroll County Coroner Sam Eady who retires at the end of this year, after more than 28 years on the job.
“It is bittersweet. I owe a lot to Sammy. His support behind me helped me win this election,” Hancock said. “He’s a fine man and done this job with the highest level of integrity. They are big shoes to fill and I hope I can make my own footprint beside his.”
After the votes were counted Tuesday, Hancock called his opponent a ‘friend’ and thanked him for running a ‘clean’ race.
“I appreciate Keith and he’s a great guy,” said Hancock. “I wish him the best.”
