Hearing Today Could Decide Fate Of Escaped Prison Inmate

A 71-year old Connecticut man who escaped from the Carroll County Convict Barracks nearly half a century ago, and captured by federal agents last month, should learn today whether or not he will be extradited back to Georgia.

Robert Stackowitz drove away from Carroll County back in 1968, having only served 2-years of a 17 year sentence for robbery.

Stackowitz's attorney contends that his client is too sickly to return to Georgia and insists that his client is rehabilitated, after being a "model citizen" for 5-decades.

He will likely not face additional charges for the escape but he may have to finish out the remaining years of his initial sentence.
