Authorities Search for Additional Evidence in the Murder of Natoshia Smith

            Buchanan- On Wednesday May 4, 2016, the GBI’s Region One Field Office, Haralson County Sheriff’s Office, Georgia State Patrol, Haralson County Fire/Rescue, and the Haralson County EMA conducted a water and ground search for evidence in the Natoshia Smith homicide investigation.  Of the search, Haralson County Sheriff Eddie Mixon said, “My office deeply appreciates the support of the GBI in this on going investigation.   With the GBI’s help we are endeavoring build the strongest case possible against the two people arrested and charged with the murder of Ms. Smith,”


            On April 19th, Sheriff Eddie Mixon announced that two Bremen residents have been charged with the murder of 32-year-old Haralson County resident Natoshia Melissa Smith. According to Sheriff Eddie Mixon, investigators from his office working along- side the Georgia Bureau of Investigation have arrested 34-year-old Carolyn Marie Southers of 1200 Agan Road, Bremen and charged her in connection with the murder of Natoshia Smith. Also charged in the murder of Ms. Smith is Randy Leon Pittman, Jr. age 43 who is currently in the Carroll County Jail on an unrelated matter. “The filing of charges follows an investigation that began on August 29, 2015 when Mixon’s Investigators were called to an abandoned house on Coppermine Road. The case was opened when a citizen, who was out looking for artifacts near an abandoned home, reported that he had found what he believed to be human remains. Sheriff’s Investigators and the GBI then responded to the crime scene where the remains were gathered and sent to the Georgia Crime Lab for processing and examination. An anthropologist determined more details regarding the injury of Natoshia Smith.


            Of the case Sheriff Eddie Mixon said, “Our investigators have worked tirelessly to find answers for Ms. Smiths’ family. After interviewing a number of people who had contact with Natoshia we determined that at her last known location there had been an altercation between Smith and two other parties. During that altercation Smith was beaten severely then taken to the abandoned house where she then suffered a gunshot wound to the head. “Sheriff Mixon adds, “This investigation is far from complete as we work to bring the two killers to justice.
