Rabid Cat Captured In Carroll

Carroll County Animal Control reminds area residents to make sure their pets have up-to-date rabies vaccinations after a cat found in Carrollton tested positive for the fatal viral disease.
Animal Control Manager Mike Jacquinot tells WLBB Radio that a single person was attacked and bitten by a stray cat while working at Superior Industries on Columbia Drive. He says a few other people were scratched trying to help that person.
They were able to capture the cat and brought it to local authorities.
Jacquinot stresses that he believes this was an isolated incident. Despite that, he says animal control staff are going to pay close attention to the animals that are picked up in that general location to make sure other animals are not infected.
He speculates the cat received rabies from a raccoon.
