Rabid Foxes Identified In Douglasville - Public Asked To Be On The Alert

Officers with Douglas County Animal Control would like the public to be on the lookout for rabid foxes. Two attacks have been reported. A man was attacked at 1:30 am on May 28th, behind the Fred’s Store at 5793, Highway 92, Douglasville. He was bitten in two different places. The next attack was on a 13-year old male at 7:00 pm the same day at 8462 South Cherokee Boulevard, Douglasville.
In this case, the young man was able to grab the fox by the neck and kill it. According to Frances McMillan from Animal Control, the fox had severe injuries prior to the attack and this may have allowed the 13-year old to kill it without injury to himself. The fox has been sent for rabies testing.
McMillian encourages residents to be cautious. Pet owners should have their animals vaccinated immediately.
