Villa Rica Police say the railroad crossing at Cheeves Street is likely to be closed for much of the day today following a train and truck collision this morning.
“As far as getting the truck out we’re looking at maybe another two hours, then they have to do a lot of work on the track—putting more crossing arms back up,” VRPD Captain Scott Parker told WLBB Radio at around noon Tuesday.
Parker says a delivery truck got stuck on the tracks this morning, attempting to cross despite the numerous warning signs posted.
“The driver says he was following his GPS, which probably sent him that way,” Parker said. “But as he crossed the tracks he gets stuck. At about that same time, a Trooper sees that he is stuck. The Trooper calls for the railroad but a few minutes later they hear the train coming.”
No injuries were reported.
Parker says a section of Montgomery Street remains closed but should be re-opened by 3:00 this afternoon.
