A man who led officers on a 30 mile chase from Georgia into Alabama is behind bars in the Carroll County jail today.

20-year-old Rodney Smith was arrested on 15 charges and was denied bond during his first hearing Wednesday. He reportedly has a previous arrest history in Birmingham including burglary and drug charges.

Police say he and Kimberly Duggar carjacked a taxi after setting their house on fire in Carrollton Tuesday. The couple's 4-year-old daughter was with them during the entire ordeal.

Duggar faces several charges as well. She is expected to be in the hospital for a few days more, however.

Smith is charged with arson, hijacking a vehicle, aggravated assault, armed robbery, third-degree cruelty to children and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. There are also multiple traffic violations related to the chase.

The 4-year-old girl had some cuts and scratches on her face, but is expected to recover. She's reportedly going to be taken into state custody and will hopefully be reunited with other family.

Police say the rental house on Adamson Avenue is a total loss.
