Police Identify Couple In Carjacking/ Police Chase

Police have identified the 20-year old man and 20-year old woman they believe set their Carrollton residence on fire, then hijacked a taxi-cab and led police on an Interstate chase into Alabama Tuesday afternoon.

Rodney Dwayne Smith and Kimberly Rachel Duggar likely face several charges after the chase ended with a crash just outside of Heflin Alabama. The couple and the 4-year old girl with them are in area hospitals

"We responded to a house fire at about 1:30 at Adamson Avenue," Captain Chris Dobbs told WLBB radio Tuesday."The Fire Department arrives. There's a young male, female and child there. They call for a taxi-cab. It shows up-- they leave and go to McDonald's on South Park Street."

That's when the male suspect began to dig through the cab driver's pockets and the driver could see the woman was holding a gun, according to Dobbs.

"They take what he has on his person. Make him get out and they steal the cab," Dobbs continues. "They drive up 27 north, get on I-20. Bremen PD spot him and apursuit happens all the way into Heflin, exit 205. The vehicle crashes. All three are transported with non-life-threatening injuries."

The couple is said to have been living in Carrollton for only a month. Before that, they resided in Birmingham, Alabama.
