Propane Could Be Concern For East Alabama Farmers

This season’s cold temperatures could be causing a propane shortage for our neighbors and farmers in east Alabama.

Governor Robert Bentley declared a state of emergency for all Alabama counties late Thursday. Bentley said the lack of propane for heating purposes has caused concern for farmers who need gas to keep their chickens alive.

The state of emergency suspends "the rules and regulations regarding the purchase and sale of propane gas directed by the propane gas industry, and allows propane tank owners to purchase propane from any company that sells it. It also allows more flexibility in the delivery to homes, schools and businesses and makes price gouging illegal.

Bentley said the state of emergency will be in place as long as necessary.
