District 68 State Representative Dustin Hightower says his legislation designed to ensure Fairfield Plantation would keep its Carroll County voting precinct, passed through a house sub-committee on Monday.
 
House bill 87 would allow the boundaries of a gated community to serve as precinct boundaries. The bill stipulates that the gates must be kept open for public access, by voters and election workers, throughout the Election Day.
 
The bill now goes to a full-committee and if approved there would be brought before the House for a vote.
