On 01/29/13 at 3:22 PM, Villa Rica Police were notified of four children that had been left alone on Thomas Dorsey Dr. The officers found that the children’s ages were 2, 4, 5, & 8 years old. The children told the officers that the mother had left them to go to the pawn shop. It was later determined that the mother of the two older children was being held in jail while the mother of the two younger children was supposed to be taking care of the children.
The mother that left the children was identified as Tiffany Diane Murphy, 24 years old, from Dorsett Shoals Rd. Douglasville Ga. After the children had been taken to the police department, Murphy contacted Det. Lynn Seagraves. Murphy refused to come to the police department because she was afraid of being arrested. Even after being advised that the children would be placed in custody of the state if she did not, Murphy still refused to meet with Det. Seagraves.
The children told officers that they had not eaten since breakfast and were all very hungry. Sgt. Brian Finley provided food for the children at 6:30 PM while waiting for DFACS to take action.
DFACS took custody of the children and Det. Seagraves obtained arrest warrants for 4 counts of Reckless Conduct and 4 counts of Cruelty to Children 1st Degree. Anyone knowing the location of Murphy is asked to contact the Villa Rica Police Department or their local jurisdiction.
