Hobby Chain With Stores Locally Facing $1.3M In Daily Fines
Attorneys for the Hobby Lobby Wednesday would not comment as to what-effect millions of dollars in reported fines will have on the status of their national arts and crafts chain-stores or employees. The owners of Hobby Lobby reportedly face $1.3 million in daily fines after they refused to comply with the new healthcare law’s contraception mandate.
An emergency request by Hobby Lobby to block enforcement of the mandate was denied by the U.S. Supreme Court but the company may continue its appeal in lower courts. “Hobby Lobby will continue their appeal before the Tenth Circuit. The Supreme Court merely decided not to get involved in the case at this time. It left open the possibility of review after their appeal is completed in the Tenth Circuit. The company will continue to provide health insurance to all qualified employees. To remain true to their faith, it is not their intention, as a company, to pay for abortion-inducing drugs.” — Kyle Duncan, General Counsel, The Becket Fund for Religious Liberty
