Senate Approves Carroll's Adjusted Re-Districting

The State Senate committee in charge of Georgia's voting districts gave an initial “OK” Wednesday to a bill that among other things, seeks to tweak house boundaries in Carroll County, where maps drawn following the 2010 census would have potentially pitted newly-elected Republican Representative Dustin Hightower against District 18 incumbent, Kevin Cooke in this year’s elections.
Hightower was elected to represent District 68 in January and the maps released in 2011 would have had him living in Cooke’s district beginning 2013.
The maps approved by committee this week place the Center Point precinct where Hightower lives, back into district 68.
The map changes have already garnered the approval of the House.
