BOE Considers Bus Arm Cameras To Identify Illegal Passers

Drivers ignoring stopped school buses and passing illegally could be more easily identified if the Carroll County school board approves a plan to install bus arm cameras at their next meeting Thursday. The school board heard a presentation Monday from a representative of American Traffic Solutions. David Jackson tells the BOE that not only would the cameras identify and begin the process for fining the erroneous drivers, AST would also wage a heavy promotional campaign within the county, reminding residents that they are being watched and the dangers of passing stopped school buses.
Pictures taken by the new cameras would be uploaded and transferred to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office for review. A ticket of up to $300 along with a picture of the violation would then be mailed to the accused driver.
Jackson ensures the BOE that all costs of the program will be covered by violators via fine payments.
