Bowdon, GA -- Construction won’t begin until 2019, but a bypass around the city of Bowdon will be either an economic boon, or a burden according to many of the outspoken citizens at last night’s city council meeting.
Mayor Keith Crawford says growth has been rampant all around the county in recent years, and now “it’s Bowdon’s turn.” City Manager Jimmy Meigs says the Georgia DOT expects a 50% reduction in downtown traffic for Bowdon. This has several local business owners concerned about exposure for their business fronts.
Beginning tomorrow, maps will be available for residents to view in bowdon city hall. A public hearing on the federally financed 2019 bypass project will be determined within the next few months. The project would also widen Georgia highway 166 into a four-lane highway from the Buffalo Creek Technical Park off the Carrollton bypass to a Bowdon bypass at West Jonesville Road.
