Colin E. Worthington Reporting
Bremen -- The 25-year-old Austell man accused of trying to abduct a seven-year-old girl from the Bremen Walmart waives his right to a first court appearance this morning and Bremen Police Chief Keith Pesnall announces additional charges to be filed against the suspect. Thomas A. Woods is accused of trying to grab the girl and carry her out of the store Wednesday. Pesnell announced additional charges this afternoon that include cruelty to children, false imprisonment, kidnapping, simple assault, suspended license and possession of marijuana. Woods was only recently released from prison after a manslaughter conviction in Dekalb County reportedly following the death of his uncle.
Pesnell continues to credit the young girl for battling the attempted kidnapper and getting away. He says she had completed a course within the last two weeks, where she had learned what to do in a similar type situation.
Pesnell says woods will likely remain in solitary confinement in the Haralson County Jail until the grand jury meets in late august.
