Villa Rica city council will continue discussions at next month’s meeting, regarding golf carts on city streets. Among the considerations for council is the recommendation by city attorney David Mecklin, to designate only a few places within the city where golf carts would be allowed to cross over Highways 61 and 78.
Mayor J. Collins asks city staff to be a little lax on enforcing the city’s sign ordinance over the next couple months, while an organized committee discusses potential changes to the 6-year old regulation. Collins says under the current law, businesses that use “human signs” – for example, income tax filing services, this time of year – are breaking the current code because the advertisements are in the city’s right-of-way. Collins says the code is written as is to keep permanent fixtures detracting from the beauty of the city. He says, this should not affect the human signs because they are not permanent fixtures and he notes, it would take away paid jobs.
