Cancer Survivors Invited to Attend Tanner’s Third Annual Celebration of Life

Tanner Health System and the Roy Richards, Sr. Cancer Center are pleased to invite cancer survivors from across west Georgia and east Alabama to Tanner’s third annual Celebration of Life, a special evening of fellowship and entertainment, on Thursday, Jan. 26 in the Health Education and Wellness Learning Center at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton.

Cancer survivors, regardless of where the diagnosis was made or treatment received, are invited to register themselves and one guest for the Celebration of Life. Seating is limited. Reservations are required. Please call 770.214.CARE (2273) to RSVP.

“At Tanner, we are inspired every day as we watch people with cancer show unparalleled courage and commitment. Witnessing what people go through to overcome their disease is always motivational to everyone involved in their care,” said Loy Howard, president and CEO of Tanner Health System. “We feel that conquering cancer is an achievement unlike any other. That’s why we’re pleased to host the Celebration of Life, an evening devoted to honoring and celebrating cancer survivors and their success.”

Hors d’oeuvres and dessert will be served. The program will include the return of last year’s extremely popular guest speaker and performer, Scott Burton, a stand-up comic and world-champion juggler who has worked with Jay Leno and Jerry Seinfeld.

Burton, an entertainer who is sure to put a smile on the face of everyone in the audience, uses humor to help cancer survivors see the human side of the cancer battle and view their lives as precious. A cancer survivor himself, Burton was diagnosed with a high grade osteo sarcoma at age 30. When he tells the tale of his own cancer battle while juggling a variety of items ranging from ping-pong balls to bowling pins, audience members don’t cry—they laugh!

“This event is a wonderful celebration for the patients and their families who are fighting cancer now or have fought the battle with cancer and won,” said Richie Bland, MD, a board-certified radiation oncologist and medical director of the Roy Richards, Sr. Cancer Center. “For the healthcare providers who have been involved with these courageous patients, this is a very satisfying opportunity to see how their efforts have made a difference in so many lives.”
