HADP Tapped for $36.5M University of West Georgia Project

HADP Architecture, with offices in Atlanta, has been selected by the University of West Georgia to serve as architect-of-record as for its new student housing and dining project.
The East Village Housing and Dining, Phase II project will mark the first major development on the eastern sector of the University of West Georgia campus. The goal of these new facilities is to produce the new ‘front door' to campus as one approaches from downtown Carrollton; while creating a neighborhood feel. The aim is to increase satisfaction with on-campus accommodations, resulting in an increase in recruitment, retention and graduation rates.

Components of this $36.5 million East Village project include:
• A new residence hall of 460-beds;
• Demolition of two existing housing buildings (Down's Hall and Boykin Hall) as well as the Art Annex;
• Renovation of the 290-bed Bowdon Hall, inside and out, to include ADA accessibility, updated bathrooms, wireless IT, and other improvements; and a new 320-seat dining facility with Housing/Residence Life Offices above.

With what will become the new epicenter to UWG's campus, outdoor space will include an amphitheater, courtyards, and terraces all encouraging social interaction and lifestyle flexibility.

The project will incorporate sustainable design concepts throughout and produce a green building, level-2 certification of two "peaches" within the Georgia Peach program-a ratings system for energy efficiency and sustainable construction standards for state buildings.

HADP is also serving as architect-of-record on the Phase I Student Housing, scheduled to open July 2012. The East Village Housing and Dining, Phase II project is expected to be complete in August of 2013.

The project team also includes associate architect, Collins Cooper Carusi Architects and program manager, Hal Gibson Companies.

Established in 1906, the University of West Georgia is located 45 miles west of Atlanta.
