Soup Kitchen Fund Raiser

Carroll County Soup Kitchen volunteers are preparing for the group’s lone annual fund-raiser next month. Last year over 800 members in the community supported the event, raising more than $24,000 for the soup kitchen. Carol Boyd is Chairperson of the Empty Bowl Organizing Committee and says volunteers are encouraging their favorite local restaurants and chefs to make soup donations.

Also, they have been organizing bowl-making parties. “We are having workshops at different churches, the Girl Scouts… a lot of different groups have been making bowls for us. Some people are doing it in their homes as well so we are getting a lot of bowls made,” says Boyd. “It’s getting a little late to make ceramic bowls because of the process of drying and firing up and firing and glazing and that sort of thing, but this year we are also encouraging people with other craft-skills like paper-machete, knitting and the like to also make bowls.”

The Carroll County Soup Kitchen delivers sack lunches to shut-ins and serves a hot meal at the soup kitchen from 11:00am until noon, Monday through Friday of the last full week of each month. Volunteers are always encouraged.

The Empty Bowls event this year is February 26th.
